Background Information
Asman Arianto is originally from Palembang, South Sumatra, but has been living and working in Aceh Tengah since 1998. Like many farmers in the area, Asman migrated to Aceh after the volcanic activity of Sinabung Berastagi in North Sumatra. He quickly entered the coffee industry, beginning with wet-hulled coffee before transitioning to processing fully washed, honey, and natural methods.
In 2018, Asman founded the Ribang Gayo Musara Cooperative to unite coffee farmers and help them achieve better prices for their cherries. The cooperative now has over 350 members who deliver cherries to the processing facility in Pantan Musara. Beyond providing better prices, the cooperative also offers training and support in cultivation and processing, and members receive end-of-season 'second payment' premiums for high-quality lots.
